branches under the University Entry Scheme (UES) and invites
applications from the students of Indian nationality aged below 24 years
studying in the final year of different streams of BE/B. Tech in a
recognized university. There are three branches to opt viz., Technical, Executive and
Submarine/Technical branch. There are sub-streams/cadres of these
branches. Engineering, Electrical and Naval Architecture are the
sub-streams of Technical branch; General Service (X), Pilot, Observer,
IT and Logistics (Works) of the Executive branch; and Engineering and
Electrical are the sub-streams of Submarine/Technical branch.

Opportunities for women:
Women may only join either Naval Architecture (NA) sub-stream of
Technical branch or Logistics (Works) sub-stream of Executive branch.
All other branches may be joined only by male candidates. Academic qualifications: The candidates studying in
Pre-final year of BE / B. Tech Engineering degree course may apply to
UES. Candidates must secure 60 % marks in all the subjects on completion
of the degree.
A CGPA of 6.75 on 10 point scale is the minimum requirement for those
applying for Naval Architecture. Physics, Chemistry and Math are
mandatory at intermediate level for all candidates applying in any
branch. Medical standards: Candidates are granted short
service commission in The Indian Navy after selection to the course.
Medical standards need to be met by the candidates for entry to the
Navy.Height requirements for Pilot and Observer are 162.5 cm whereas
these are relaxed up to 157 cm for other branches.
Female candidates having a minimum height of 152 cm are eligible for the Naval Architecture, Logistics and Technical branches
Job Profile: Executive Officers specialize in all
warfare, communications and navigation etc and actively participate in
all facets of Naval operations including air, surface and sub-surface
operations. Technical officers maintain ships, submarines, aircraft and
weaponry. Applications may be filled online at the Indian Navy website and details for online application submission may be seen there. Selection process: A
Naval Campus Selection Team will shortlist the candidates for SSB
interview after an interview of eligible candidates based on the
candidate’s preference to entry into a particular branch.
It’s a multi-step process that involves SSB (Short Service Board)
Testing, medical examination and preparation of final merit list. Shortlisted candidates will undergo stage I test that includes intelligence rating test and picture perception/discussion test.
After screening in the stage I test, successful candidates have to
appear in the stage II testing that involves psychological test, group
test and interview. An All India Merit list will be prepared for
successful candidates in SSB and medical tests depending on the
vacancies and such candidates will be appointed for training.
Induction:
After being declared selected, candidates will be inducted as officers
in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo 22 weeks Naval Orientation
Course at the INA, Ezhimala followed by a professional training in Naval
Ships and Training Establishments as per their entry.
Pilot candidates will be further trained (stage I & stage II) at
Air Force Academy/Naval Establishment and awarded wings after successful
completion of all trainings. Observer badge will be awarded to Observer
candidates after abridged SLt Tech Courses and Flying training.
Candidates willing for entry into submarine have to undergo
professional training in other Naval Training Establishments/Ships and
pass the Submarine Qualifying Board to become eligible for Submarine pay
and allowance of Rs 17,500/- per month.
Career Advancement and Pay Package:
After selection, candidates are appointed in the rank of Sub Lieutenant
and placed in the Pay band 3 that envisages the pay scale of Rs
15600-39100 with the grade pay of Rs 5400 PM.
An allowance of Rs 6000/- is also admissible as Military Service Pay.
They may be promoted on time scale basis from Sub-Lieutenant to
Commander (Cdr) subject to fulfillment of other conditions. Gross
emoluments for Sub-Lieutenant as first pay package would be
approximately between Rs 66000/- to 83000/- including basic pay, DA, GP,
MSP, HRA and transport allowances.
Career Advancement:
On promotion to Lieutenant (Lt) from SLt, grade pay increases from Rs
5400/- to Rs 6100/-. Likewise, subsequent promotions to Lieutenant
Commander (Lt Cdr) and Commander (Cdr) result in increase of grade pay
to Rs 6600 and 8000/-, respectively. Other benefits to Navy personnel
include free ration, housing facilities, medical facilities, annual
leave for 60 days and casual leave of 20 days per year, leave travel
concessions etc.
Various allowances are admissible to officers depending on their
cadre. A technical allowance of Rs 2500-6250/- pm is permissible to
Technical Officer. Qualified pilots and Observers are entitled to an
allowance of Rs 11250-17500/- pm as Flying Pay and same amount is
admissible as submarine allowance to a qualified submariner.
All officers get an instructional allowance of Rs 1800/-pm when
posted as an instructor. An initial ‘Uniform’ grant of Rs 16000/- is
admissible to all officers and additionally they are given a recurring
grant of Rs 5000/- every third year for the Uniform.
