Following is the question answer session with Abhijeet, an aspirant for 2016 civil services aspirant
Abhijeet: Sir, notification for civil services is already out and prelims examination will begin from August 7, 2016. Is there anything you would like to advise the aspirants of this year examination?
FICC (Free Indian Career Counsellor): Hi Abhijeet, aspirants have to understand the nature of examination and get aware of the tips for preparation. Prelims is carried out by UPSC as a first part of the 3 tier civil services to eliminate non-serious candidates and reduce the number of candidates substantially to appear in Mains.
Abhijeet: Well Sir, I would like to know whether Prelims are only for Civil Services aspirants or includes screening for some other exams also.
FICC: Yes Abhijeet you have asked a very good question and all aspirants must bear it in minds that prelims exam is conducted for screening of both Civil services as well as Indian Forest Service aspirants.
Abhijeet:Does it have any bearing on method of preparation for prelims?
FICC: Since Prelims is intended for two important examinations being conducted, questions asked have to be relevant to both the communities of aspirants. Combining screening of Indian Forest Service aspirants with Civil services, nature of examination has changes a lot. Basic sciences, environment, ecology, agriculture and current affairs are given more emphasis and more questions on these aspects are now assumed to be included in future prelims.
Abhijeet: What about traditional questions from fields of economics, social sciences, polity and history in future examinations ?
FICC: Yes questions from these areas will be asked but difficulty level is likely to be eased.
Abhijeet: Sir, my last question is related to placing maximum attention on selected papers.
FICC: As we discussed earlier, aspirants need to focus more on core areas like General science, Civics, Polity and Economics which constitute the majority of General Science I paper. These areas have got more focus consequent upon changing 'qualifying' nature of CSAT
Abhijeet: Thanks Sir, I'll request you to provide more inputs on preparation for prelims in coming days.
FICC: Oh sure. Thanks for participation in the discussion.
