Entrance Exams (UG Admission)

 There are numerous options for students after passing the intermediate examination (plus two). Based on their stream in plus two, they can go to study art, science or commerce courses. In addition to these regular streams, there are some professional or technical streams which they can opt based on their aptitude. Details of different entrance examinations are given in the following paragraphs. Even after succeeding in the competitive entrance examinations they face dilemma of selecting a good college. This site provides latest rankings of schools under different streams so that they may get a fair idea of good or bad colleges.

1. Indian Navy: University Entry Scheme (UES) for grant of short service commission to BE/B Tech students 
Applications are invited from the students of Indian nationality, aged below 24 years studying in the final year of different streams of BE/B. Tech in a recognized university, by the Indian Navy for the grant of Short Service Commission (10 years, extendable by 4 years) in Executive and Technical branches under the University Entry Scheme (UES). Students can opt either of three branches viz., Technical, Executive and Submarine/Technical branch based on their choice and specialization.  Engineering, Electrical and Naval Architecture are the sub-streams of Technical branch; General Service (X), Pilot, Observer, IT and Logistics (Works) of the Executive branch; and Engineering and Electrical are the sub-streams of Submarine/Technical branch. 2. NDA & CDS: A gateway to defense services

 Union Public service Commission conducts twice a year both NDA as well as CDS examinations. Candidates interested for the admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the National Defence Academy (NDA) take up the NDA examination whereas CDS examination is taken up for admission to the various courses in Indian Military, Naval, Air Force and Officers Training Academies. 3. Law entrance exam & career prospects in legal field (Law)

 From 2008, National Law Universities have agreed to conduct the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) each year on rotational basis as per the seniority order for admission to Integrated law courses of graduate level. Several courses viz., B.Sc. LL.B.: WBNUJS (Kolkata) NLU (Jodhpur) and GNLU (Gandhinagar) B.B.A. LL.B.: CNLU (Patna) and NLUO (Cuttack), B.S.W. LL.B. and B.Com. LL.B. 4. JEE (Main) entrance exam for admissions to CFTI's
Candidates willing to get admitted to Engineering institutes such as IITs, NITs and other participating institutes need to appear in qualifying  JEE (Main . Among the lakh of candidates appearing in JEE (Main), nearly 1.5-2.0 lakh become eligible to appear in JEE (Advance). About 12-13 lakh candidates generally appear in JEE (Main) examination.

5. NEET examination for admission to medical colleges

NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY CUM ENTRANCE TEST (UG)  is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in India in Medical/Dental Colleges run with the approval of Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Institutions established through an Act of Parliament e.g. AIIMS, Delhi and JIPMER, Puducherry conducts their own entrance examinations.
CBSE  conducts examination, declare result and provides All India Rank to the Directorate General Health Services, Government of India for the conduct of counseling for 15% All India Quota Seats and supplies the result to state/other Counseling Authorities.

6. NIFT Entrance Examination

 NIFT entrance exam is conducted by National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to screen candidates for admission in design programs offered. Considered to be a pioneer in fashion education, NIFT is located with its headquarters in New Delhi and it has countrywide centers at Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna, Shillong and Raebareli. It offers courses such as Bachelor of Design (BDes), Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), Master of Design (MDes), Master of Fashion Management (MFM) and Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech).  NIFT is conducted twice a year for the convenience of the candidates.

7. Mass Media/Journalism entrance examination 

Unlike JEE or NEET entrance, entrance examination for journalism is conducted by individual institutes for admission to courses offered by the individual institutions. The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) conducts the Common Entrance Test (CET) for giving admissions to students in Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC).  Candidates who have secured at least 50 percent aggregate in their Class 12 board examination may appear for this examination.  Delhi University (BMMMC) course is a self-financed program which is offered by I.P College under the University of Delhi. The entrance exam is conducted in two tiers. The candidates who have scored minimum 55 percent aggregate in Class 12 board examination can apply for this course. MGM College of Journalism and Mass Communication conducts their entrance exam to give admission to students in undergraduate courses. The candidates who have passed plus  with at least 45 percent from a recognised board or institute. Banaras Hindu University (BHU) also offers Bachelor's degree program in mass communication.

8. Bachelor in Homeopathy Medicine & Surgery (BHMS) entrance  examination

Similar to journalism, there exists no single entrance examination for admission to BHMS  courses in India as individual colleges offers separate system of admission to their colleges. Hence, candidates willing to opt for bachelor degree course in Homeopathy need to seek information from colleges located in their vicinity. Duration of the course is 5 & 1/2 years that includes one year of internship.


9. Mass Media/Mass Communication entrance examination
Depending on the one's interest, one may pursue a course in mass communication and work for newspapers, television channels, magazines, radio stations, advertising agencies, PR companies and event management firms.A list of top mass communication colleges is available on our site. However, majority of the colleges conduct their own entrance exams to shortlist candidates for admissions.For admission to UG course offered by Symbiosis institute of Media and Communication, Symbiosis International University conducts Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET) every year. Manipal University conducts MU-OET examination for admission into UG course offered at School of Communication, Manipal University. IP College of Women, Delhi University conducts separate entrance for admission to its UG course in mass media. IPU-CET is conducted by IP University for admission to affiliate colleges of university every year.
